Mermaids make me smile!

Tuesday, September 8th, 2015

I wanted to share a card that I made about a month ago. This little image was a freebie sent out in The Greeting Farm’s newsletter. I just LOVE mermaids and feel like I have to get ANY stamp with mermaids on it. 🙂

This is a pretty simple top folding A2 card. I was playing around with coloring her up and decided to make a card. I used Doodlebug’s Sunkissed 6×6 paper pad for this one. I also used a lot of scraps. I even decided to use sequins! Hey, I may have a lot, but that doesn’t mean I want to necessarily USE them. The waves are inverted stitched scallops cut from scraps. The sun background was a file from silhouette that I inlaid. The rocks, I free hand cut myself.

I didn’t do any fancy coloring with this one. I was mainly practicing hair. For a finishing touch, I put Clear Wink of Stella on the tail. What mermaid doesn’t have a shimmer tail? 😉

I do hope you like my simple card. I LOVE it! I actually did NOT do anything on the inside. Nope, don’t feel my forehead. I’m fine. Just wanted to use this one as a note card.

Wedding Bells are Ringing!

Monday, October 27th, 2014

As y’all know, I’ve been making an assortment of Christmas cards. Well, with both my husband and I being procrastinators and absent minded, I had totally forgotten that I hadn’t made my sister-in-law’s card for her wedding. I knew I had to get to work because I had less than a day (I don’t expect much from myself, huh? 😛 ) and I also had to pack and get my family ready to leave for NC on Friday by 5pm. I was really proud of myself that 4pm rolled around, I was packed, the card was made, the car was loaded, and I was waiting on my husband to get home from work. This is a VERY RARE occurance in this house.

Okay, onto the card!

I LOVE using Valentine’s Day (my favorite holiday so I collect EVERY Valentine’s Day or love themed 6×6 paper pad I can find.) paper pads for weddings. This card was no exception and gave me a reason to pull out one of my favorite paper pads to use. My SIL is really stylish and modern, so I knew I didn’t want to do a girly card. I wanted a little more of a modern look and grabbed my “Head Over Heels” pad. This pad isn’t just red, pink, and hearts. It had that really pretty script and the gray damask print.

The stamp I used is from The Greeting Farm. I printed it out and then cut it out using my Silhouette. Totally called it too… My SIL had her hair down just like the stamp. 🙂 No roses in her hair, but she was carrying red roses. 🙂 I printed and cut out a few of these so that I could color some more. It’s great practice for coloring white & black. 🙂 Oh, and the HAIR!!! Gotta love that Greeting Farm hair!

From the start I knew I wanted to use black and white with pops of red. Come to find out, the color of my SIL’s wedding was black and red. For the little pops of red, I used Simon Says Stamp School House Red cardstock. I just love how it came out. I added the image using foam squares to give it a little boost.

I used my Bow-It-All to make a triple bow out of some thin silk ribbon I colored with my copics. Instead of having to have all these different colors of silk ribbons, I just have a roll of white and color it with my copics to match. I decided to add a red rose to the center of the bow. I didn’t want to put a sentiment on the front as I felt that would take away from the simplicity.

For the inside, I wanted to have it be simple. I decided to use a sweet sentiment from a Paper Smooches sentiment set and add a little pop of color by making a dimensional die cut using a die set from Mama Elephant.

I have to show a picture of the beautiful bride & her groom. 🙂

Holiday Anya + VIDEOS!!!

Monday, October 20th, 2014

Yes, you read that right! VIDEOS! I have 2 to share with you! They both have voice overs too! I know! I’m getting fancy schmancy! Really, my honey bought me a new webcam, mic, and video editing program (well, I bought them and then told him he bought them for me. 😉 ). I gave it a test run and boy oh boy do I have some immense respect for those who make weekly videos! Okay, well, the first program has a glitch with my video card so it didn’t work out too well. The second one, Adobe Premiere Elements 13, finished what the other couldn’t do in an afternoon. I’ve been working on these videos for over a week.

Okay, anywhoo… I made up a card using Holiday Anya. This was my card for Day 10 of CMFCM, but the class is over and I missed being able to put it up in the gallery. (Stupid Pinnacle!) I even fixed some Copic mistakes (class topic) on this one without even “making” myself do it. 😉 I recently got this stamp from someone who was clearing out their craft room. Hey, if it saves me money and gives me more supplies, I’m ALL FOR IT! Okay…. Back on topic! She’s such a cute little stamp!

The first video is on coloring her. I cut out a LOT! I’ve also got some good tips in there that I’ve learned in my many, many years of crafting! The second is on the making of the card. I actually made my own velvet flocked paper. 🙂 I used Doodlebug’s Ladybug flocking. This was MESSY!!! At first I didn’t like how the sentiment looked, but I like it now. Like I said in the video, putting a white border around something can give the eye a break when going from dark colors to busy backgrounds or busy backgrounds to busy backgrounds. I so really like how it came out. 🙂 Of course, I had to add Wink of Stella. Addicting marker! In the photo below, you can see it better. 🙂 Oh, and that GORGEOUS silver twine from Lawn Fawn!!!
