Floating Birthday Wishes

Saturday, August 12th, 2017

Hey, y’all! I’m sharing a card I created for the Craftin’ Desert Divas August Mood Board Challenge! To play along, just use CDD products with the mood board inspiration, and then share it on social media. Be sure to tag Craftin’ Desert Divas with #cddmonthly for a chance to win! More information is available in the Files section of the Craftin’ Desert Divas Gallery Facebook Group.

In this theme, I see birthday stuff! So, I made a cute little birthday card using the “Happy Hello” digital stamp. This stamp is SO cute and I’ve had my eye on it for a while to make a birthday card.

I colored her up with Copic markers to match Doodlebug’s Fairy Tales set. Can you tell I like Doodlebug? For this one, I decided to make a shaker card. I cut out everything using my Scan N’ Cut. I only had to cut a little with my craft knife to get the insides of the balloon strings. I did decide to use a silver thread for the balloon strings instead of the black lines. Yeah, it took a little longer, but I think it was worth it.

To make the frame for the shaker, I used the Inside Scalloped Rectangle dies from Craftin’ Desert Divas. These have very quickly become a go-to die for me. For the filler in my shaker window, I used hot pink and purple micro beads, clear iridescent seed beads, and iridescent star sequins. I just LOVE how it came out! It’s very girly and since I have 8 nephews and only 2 nieces I don’t get to make very many girly cards.
For a finishing touch, there’s an extra thick layer of Glossy Accents over the balloons. This is because when the first layer was almost dry, I was messing around with it thinking I could be careful and finish the card while it was still wet and stuck my thumb in it. 🙁 So, I had to put another layer.

For the inside, I decided to use a little sentiment from the 6×6 Fairy Tales paper pad. I think it looks perfect!

Tickled Pink & So Sweet!

Monday, August 7th, 2017

Welcome to Day 3 of the Craftin’ Desert Divas August Release! Tara let me share over on the CDD blog today! Plus, today, the divas are sharing their creations using Tickled Pink, an adorable set that will make flamingo lovers squeal!
The new August release will be available for purchase in the Craftin’ Desert Divas store on August 9 at noon EST.

This little flamingo is SO adorable! I love that they’re sharing the pineapple drink! I decided that it would look best if it appeared they were taking a break from building a sand castle and playing ball to cool off.
To make my scene, I used Watercolor paper as my background. Then I masked off the area I wanted to for the sand. I used Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide ink. I also went over with my Copic airbrush set with E55 and E53 and used the super brush nib in the machine to make the splatters. Then I masked the sky area off and used Broken China and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink to make the ocean. Finally, I masked off the lower portion of the scene and airbrushed BG11 to make my sky.
To make my frame, I used the largest rectangle from the new Inside Rectangle dies and cut 1/8″ from the stitching so that it was a less feminine frame. Then I doubled up on the foam tape to give it some dimension.

To make my images look a little more like they’re part of the scene, I used my craft knife to make slits in the background and slid part of them through. I also went around the white area and colored it to match the scene.
For a finishing touch, I added Glossy Accents to the beach ball and the flamingo’s eye.

I do hope you like my card and please remember to come join us at the CDD August Release Event.

Live, Love, Plan for teachers!

Sunday, August 6th, 2017

Welcome to Day 2 of the August Craftin’ Desert Divas release! Today, the Divas are sharing 2 new stamps sets, Twinkle Toes & Live, Love, Plan, and a new die set called Inside Scalloped Rectangle dies. Be sure and say “going” to our August Release Event on Facebook! You’ll have a chance to win the stamp sets!

I get to share my project using Live, Love, Plan! For this sweet little troll set, I decided to make a gift I use to always make for my kiddo’s teachers. Now that my children are in middle school and high school, they don’t want me to send cutesy gifts anymore.

This is a post-it note holder for a desk. It can also be changed out for the seasons or holidays!

To make this, I used an acrylic photo frame from Wal-mart, some patterned paper, my colored images, adhesive, and a set of post-it notes.

I chose to color my images matching Doodlebug’s, very fitting, Back-to-School 6×6 paper pad. I just love that the little worm and owl both have troll hair! I mean, come on!!! How adorable is that???

After putting the post-it note stack on the front, I added my sentiment using a layer of foam tape and HAD to add the little paper clip from the set! To cut out my sentiment, I used the Flag Banner Dies set. I did some partial die cutting to make the banner fit my sentiment and the size I needed.

I do hope you like my project. I think you should make some of these for your kids’ teachers. I’ve yet to have a teacher not love it and use it! Plus, they’re super simple and inexpensive!
