New on YouTube! Lets Color! VIDEO!!

Monday, February 16th, 2015

Hey, y’all! I’ve been busy, just can’t post a lot of what I’ve done because one is for my Mom, who frequents my blog a lot, another is for my Dad (my Mom would show him), and one is for my Honey. I just don’t post any of his completed because they’re kinda personal. 🙂 Okay, so, a lot of you know that I have a YouTube channel… If you didn’t, SURPRISE!!

My YouTube channel…

I’ve also added my social media links in the top of the sidebar, just in case you’d like to see other places I post. I post a LOT to instagram because it’s so easy to do. Okay, on to what this post is about… On instagram, I’ve had a few people say they’d love videos of how I color. So, I’ve decided to do a series on YouTube called “Lets Color!!!”. I’ll do close up videos of the coloring of an image, sped up (because I take so long to color) with no voice overs. Now, about 90% of the time I can’t explain what I’m doing. It just looks wrong and I’ll work on it until it looks right. This is why the no voice overs. I’d also leave in any mistakes and how I corrected them. I try to put non-annoying music, but I have yet to find any in my program. These don’t seem to take me long to edit. Just take out the parts where I am thinking about what color I should make something, or my wrist going under the camera because I need a different marker. I’ll do these in parts so they’re not so long. Also, if there’s only 1 part that you’d like to see colored, if it’s a main part it should have its own video. I’d like to do them on a schedule, but we all know me and schedules. So, maybe if I get into a rhythm I can do them weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Should be easier when we move to our new house. My craft room will be WITH the family and not where it’s 40 degrees in here.

So, I have my first “Lets Color” video up… I’m coloring “Owl Treasure Our Friendship” by Whiff of Joy. This is one of their digital stamps. I’ll embed the videos below, but if you’d like to be notified as soon as I’ve posted a video, please go to my YouTube channel and subscribe.

Our Favorite Santa

Tuesday, October 28th, 2014

Remember how I’m coloring all the images that use to intimidate me? Well, with this one I added an extra challenge… I also did the “no lines” coloring technique. I’m LOVING how this came out! The image is by Whiff of Joy and it’s called “On Santa’s Knee”. I’ve had it for a couple years and never colored it because it intimidated me. I was afraid I would get it wrong. Silly girl!!! If I never color it, then I’ll definitely get it wrong!

This image taught me a TON about coloring white. Here’s a tip I learned. If the color next to the white is going to be dark, then you need to deepen your grays. Also, to keep the “white” parts looking white, have it be the lightest color on the image. See how I made the walls a cream color? Well, since there’s no other white on the image, your mind registers the beard and parts of his suit as white because they’re “supposed” to be white and there’s no other white to compare it to. I actually had to darken my whites to get them to look right. Never thought I’d ever have that phrase come out of my mouth. Actually, I used W6 as the deepest shade for my whites. Definitely not my first pick for coloring white! The black layer behind the green layer was going to be white except with it being pure white, it made my Santa’s white look gray. So, I colored it with N6 to make the boots and other black touches pop from the image, thus bringing out the white.

I also decided to do something else new for me. I made a shaped card. I love this die set from Lifestyle crafts! It looks a lot like Labels 1 from Spellbinders, but they are larger and the shape varies. 🙂 Only problem I have with them is that you need to make sure your cut pieces line up before arranging everything because they are not perfectly symmetrical. Now, those poinsettias are another thing I LOVE about this card. They are made using a die from Simon Says Stamp.

This die is called Poinsettia Parade. These are tiny little poinsettias. I think the largest is about 1.25″ square. Do you see the detail that is put in? The die does all of that! All I did was cut 3 of the die. 2 from SSS Schoolhouse Red cardstock and 1 from SSS Midnight Green cardstock. Then I flipped over each layer and ran an embossing stylus up the middle of each petal. This made them have some extra dimension. To finish them off, I used clear rhinestones that I colored with a copic marker. I didn’t have the different sizes in that color, so I just made my own. To adhere the flowers to the card, I used glue dots, rolled glue dots, and 3D glue dots to give them different heights.

I opted to not put a sentiment on the front because I spent so much time coloring this image that I wanted to make it the focal point.

I decided the best sentiment for the inside was this sweet one from Paper Smooches. Kids believe in Santa because they still believe in the magic of Christmas. I didn’t want it to just be black, I wanted to bring some of that red from the outside, so I stamped it in Simon Says Stamp Schoolhouse Red ink.

Oh! Before I forget… Because this is a shaped card with rounded sides, it’s not very stable when you open it. I cut about 1/8″ off the back of the card so that it would rest on that and not be so tipsy.

I think that was all I was going to tell you about this card. I’d love to put up all the “in progress” photos I have of the coloring. You can really see the white turn white. So very cool!

Miss You & Video

Friday, May 9th, 2014

Today I’m doing a first for me. I’m showing my first speed coloring video. My mom has always been there for me whenever I need it. Recently I’ve been going through some rough times and my mom was right there at any time I needed to talk over the phone. She lives 8+ hours away, so a personal visit wouldn’t be practical. Thankfully I’m feeling better.

The image I colored is a digital stamp from Whiff of Joy. It’s Maya Thinking of You. This image reminds me of my cat, Floyd. He died a long time ago, but he was my buddy when I was at home. He would be right beside me all the time and loved to play with whatever I was using. 🙂

missyou

The patterned paper I used is from the Echo Park line “Country Drive”. When I saw this image, I knew immediately that I wanted to use this paper line.
