Happy Spook-oween!

Written on Saturday, October 7th, 2017

Hey, y’all! I cannot believe that it’s already October! That means it’s time for another Mood Board Challenge from Craftin’ Desert Divas! Remember, to play along, just use CDD products, post a photo of your project in the Monthly Challenge Folder located in the Craftin’ Desert Divas’ Gallery, and then also post your challenge on social media with #CDDMONTHLY so we can find it.

Now, for my card, I didn’t go for the “fall” look or colors of the inspiration board… I went for the little word in there, “October”. I have NEEDED to make this card since I first laid eyes on this sweet little witch troll!

To start my card, I wanted the total focus to be this witch riding her broom in front of the moon, so I made a circle shaped card. I also added my sentiment to the inside of the card. I used the Scalloped Circle dies to make my card base and a front panel for my card. Then, I cut out some purple glitter cardstock using the Shake It Up circle die. Finally, I cut some Bristol smooth cardstock using the circle die from the Scalloped Circle die set. I inked this up with Black Soot Distress Oxide ink and sprayed it heavily with water. I wanted the color to be really muted, but still have a lot of texture. I added some more texture by spraying the moon with a shimmer spray from W Plus 9, then mounted this piece on foam tape and adhered it to the front of my card base.

Next, I colored up my images using Copic markers and cut them out with my Scan N Cut (this machine still blows my mind!). I adhered these using Multi Medium in matte. Then I moved on to the inside of my card…

When I was using my die on my sentiment strip, it moved just before it cut, so it’s crooked. To make it less noticeable, I tilted the banner strip a bit. This banner strip is from the Flag Banner dies set, but I did some partial die cutting to make it shorter. I also cut off the part outside the stitching.

I wanted to put an image on the inside of the card, so I colored up this cute little pumpkin bucket with candy in it and attached it under my sentiment strip.

For some finishing touches, I added Nuvo Shimmer pen to her dress and shoes, hat band, the toad’s hat band, the bat’s hair, and the pumpkin bucket’s eyes and mouth inside. I also added Glossy Accents to the eyes of both critters and also the buckle on her hat.

I look forward to seeing what you create! Be sure to post it in the Gallery!

Christmas Cheer – Top 3 Copic Combos

Written on Thursday, October 5th, 2017

Good morning! This week, over on the Craftin’ Desert Divas blog, some of the design team is sharing their top 3 Copic marker colors combinations and I HAD to share mine with you!

Mine are based around 2 things. 1.) I LOVE foxes! 2.) Christmas is coming very soon!

My first color combination I’m sharing is the one I ALWAYS use for foxes. You can make it lighter or darker by adding more or less of the darker colors. I found this color combination when I was looking up photos of foxes, I found a photo I liked, printed it, and used my Copic swatches to match the different colors. I love that it’s not too red, not too orange, and not too brown. It feels just right to me! It works great for CDD images because there are a TON of foxes in the shop!

My fox color combo is (dark to light) YR27, E33, YR16, YR12

The second color combination I’m choosing is my Red color combination. I LOVE this bright, Christmassy red for my Christmas cards, and it’s my go to red for everything.

The color combination for red is (dark to light) R59, R39, R29, R24

My third and last color combination is the one I LOVE for a nice Christmas green. And, it’s easy to make your highlights and shadows with this one. It does take a little more blending though.

The color combination for green is (dark to light) G28, G46, YG17, YG23

I’m attaching 3 photos to show the use of these color combinations. These adorable images are from Santa’s Helpers. Aren’t they cute?!?! Plus, I threw in a couple extra color combos I always use too.

So, now, to make my project, I pulled out my Shake It Up dies and also my Inside Scalloped Circle dies. I used the circle from the Shake It Up dies along with the medium scalloped circle from the Inside Scalloped Circle dies to make my frame.

I cut an additional 2 circles, from Bristol smooth cardstock, from the Shake It Up dies, for my background. One circle I inked up with Distress Inks, and the other I cut into the 2 snow banks.

You can see my adorable little scene inside my shaker. I LOVE how this came out!

As you can see below, I cut the base from some dark brown cardstock, and then cut the plate from some silver metallic paper. After stamping my sentiment, I attached it to the base with brads.

This card did end up being a bit thick, so it’s one that will either be shipped in a box of presents or hand delivered.

I do hope you like my card! Thanks for letting me share 3 of my favorite color combinations with you!

Under the Moon & Stars

Written on Monday, September 11th, 2017

I wanted to say a quick thank y’all for stopping by! This is going to be a short post. I have another card from the latest Craftin’ Desert Divas release to share with you. This release was just amazing! I loved all of it!

I wanted to keep my card simple so that the focus was on the sloth in the sleeping bag.

The only depth on my card is the frame & the sentiment strip. I just really wanted that focus to be on the sloth enjoying his nice peaceful camping trip. No Big Foot, no friends, just him and the moon & stars.

Now, to make my trees in silhouette, I just used Black Distress Oxide ink and sponged it on a piece of watercolor paper that I die cut using the new Fall Border dies.

Copics Used:

Sloth: E37, E35, E33, E31, E30
Sleeping Bag: R59, R39, R29, R24
Campfire: E49, E47, E44 / Y26, Y17, Y15, Y13, Y11
Lantern: YG09, YG17, YG23 / C2 / BG11, BG10 / Y17, Y15
Moon: C3, C1, C0, C00
