Happy Birthday, Dad!!!

Written on Sunday, June 11th, 2017

Yesterday was my Dad’s birthday. If you’ve been following me on social media, you’ve seen the owl card I made for his birthday. He has always collected owls. The card base is 3.75″ x 9″.

I love these little owls from Dare 2B Artzy. Each owl is individual, but I didn’t make them to match anyone in my family (even though I totally could). For all the little accessories, I used 2 different stamp sets. Lawn Fawn’s Party Animals and My Favorite Things Beary Special Birthday. As always, the copic colors I used are listed lower in the post.

I adhered the branches directly down to the card and added 1 layer of foam tape along the bottom of each owl, and 2 layers behind the upper portion. For the background, I used Distress Inks (listed below), and the MFT Cloud Stencil.

For the inside, I pulled out 2 more stamp sets. Simon Says Stamp Big Birthday Wishes, and The Alley Way Stamps Wish Big. I also used a sentiment from the Hoot Hoot stamp set the owls are in.

Because this is a special card, I wanted to make a matching envelope. I used the We R Memory Keepers 1-2-3 Punch Board to make a business sized envelope. I used the Envelope Expert by the Crafty Owl to get the size I needed. I used one of the owls I used on the card, and added a party hat to him. Then used one of the other sentiments in the set. Later, I addressed it by hand.

My Dad LOVED it! I love that he sees the amount of work and love I put into it.

Update on Life

Written on Tuesday, June 6th, 2017

So, it’s been a long time since I posted anything on this blog. If you follow me on social media (links are at the top of the menu), you’ve seen the stuff I’ve been working on.

Where have I been? Well, back at Fort Benning, my husband was over a basic training unit. I was the liaison between the family members of the trainees and the unit. I volunteered about 60 hours a week to keep everyone updated. I did this for 5 cycles and loved it. I’m glad I did it, but I don’t want to do it again, but I would if I was needed. That took up all of my time. After my husband left that unit, we moved up here to Louisville, Kentucky. I was going through some health issues with my thyroid levels and also my hormones. Explains why I’d been so tired for the past few years. After about 4 months up here, and my wonderful new nurse practitioner discovering all this, I started to feel better and could work on my craft room and, recently, actually create again.

Forgive me? I actually already have quite a few posts scheduled and ready to go, but I don’t want to bombard you with all of them at once. I’ve also currently got 7 cards I’m working on.

I do have some awesome news!!! I found a local paper crafting store called Craft Inn. I get to teach there! I’ll be showing my demo cards, but I can’t give a detailed how-to since they are classes. The ladies are wonderful and super helpful to those who are new to paper crafts and anyone who comes in. They’re always happy to share their hobby. It’s been a long time since I’ve lived near an actual paper crafting store. Not a big box store, though I do have quite a few of those around here too.

Thank you for stopping by and I promise I’ll have a new post or two up this week.

Mermaids make me smile!

Written on Tuesday, September 8th, 2015

I wanted to share a card that I made about a month ago. This little image was a freebie sent out in The Greeting Farm’s newsletter. I just LOVE mermaids and feel like I have to get ANY stamp with mermaids on it. 🙂

This is a pretty simple top folding A2 card. I was playing around with coloring her up and decided to make a card. I used Doodlebug’s Sunkissed 6×6 paper pad for this one. I also used a lot of scraps. I even decided to use sequins! Hey, I may have a lot, but that doesn’t mean I want to necessarily USE them. The waves are inverted stitched scallops cut from scraps. The sun background was a file from silhouette that I inlaid. The rocks, I free hand cut myself.

I didn’t do any fancy coloring with this one. I was mainly practicing hair. For a finishing touch, I put Clear Wink of Stella on the tail. What mermaid doesn’t have a shimmer tail? 😉

I do hope you like my simple card. I LOVE it! I actually did NOT do anything on the inside. Nope, don’t feel my forehead. I’m fine. Just wanted to use this one as a note card.
